Oh good lord. Sharon, you all deserve medals. The lack of coffee alone would have had me lying on the floor face down, crying. Thank goodness you're all ok. You must have been overjoyed when that power came back on. I hope the clean up doesn't take too long and that this never happens again! 💛
Sharon! What a story! I mean beautifully written but what a horror! It's so good to hear you're all ok. My thoughts are genuinely with you. Well done for sharing xxx
This beautiful, humorous essay, in light of the spooky situation, brightened my early morning. 🔆
I am here in the high Colorado Rocky Mountains where I've endured and survived a disasterous wildfire that took 5 homes and decided mine wasn't worth burning. As the spring arrived, 24 horrific flash floods decimated my property's lower acre. I wish I had companions like Dougal and Hamish to share tea and snuggles.
I so love the "Bridget Jones's Diary" humor of your writing! Oh to have your talent.
Gosh you’ve made me smile with those wonderful compliments. Thank-you so much. My, you’ve gone through a lot, between the fire and the floods - I hope you have people around you for support?
I completed all fire mitigation and most of the flood clean-ups alone, but have moral support from my daughter and her husband and two boys. They live in another state. I'm fortunate to be strong and in the best shape of my life at 71. 😁
I always tell myself I'd love a bit of extreme weather, a little bit of adversity to keep things chipper. Not going to be so glib after reading this - what a week!
I got an incredible sense of community reading this, really sounds like you're all there for each other.
What a ride Sharon! Glad you're all ok. I think you're right about the unsettling feeling of nothing happening - I was at first thinking it would be fun to be all Amish for a bit but I think that would wear off pretty quickly. The sound of the fan and kettle boiling was such a big relief.
Also love that you were still able to rue the new White Lotus theme tune amidst this!!
Wow !!! How terrifying! My sister and her daughter and her partner, decided to fly out to Sydney in the end, they felt a bit scared ! At least they could do stuff as it was my sisters first time to Australia and my niece has only lived there for a year. The cold showers!!! No hot drink in the morning , the leech on your eyelid 😳😳😳😳. And taking on two dogs !!! So glad you are all ok. Thank you for sharing this Sharon , gives us Brits some insight to this crazy weather.
My sister has just asked me to send her your story about it, she told me about the beach and I said you put a photo in your post ! It’s shocking isn’t it !
So glad you’ve got power back! What a journey. I would struggle without a hot tea and a hot shower. Bless you for taking those dogs in - they are bloody adorable. So nice that the community all looks out for each other. Enjoy that cuppa!
Ahh thanks Sara. I really wanted to get the piece out on the day the power was restored - and I just about managed it...Yes, the people up here on the hill are great. Enjoying a cuppa as we speak :)

Thanks Jules, it’s certainly a challenge! Getting there. I really appreciate you sharing 💗
I’m glad you’re ok. Truly terrifying. It just goes to show how easily we can be knocked off keel. As Jules says I hope it doesn’t happen again.
Phew. What a rollercoaster, Sharon! The dogs look zen!

Thank - you Colin - and for becoming a paid subscriber - it’s much appreciated x
Wow! What a read!!!
How is it that, even with such a Clyclone-sized cloud over you all, you still bring humour and pragmatism to the (dining) table - Well done, doll! x
That was strangely engrossing. And I think I love Hamish.

Thought you’d appreciate the nod to White Lotus Faith 😋 Thanks for reading x
Blimey, what a story! We don't get that sort of thing in Gillingham. So glad you weathered the storm x
I said a similar thing about Sidcup!

Oh I’m so glad your sister managed to work around it. Although I know Sydney was affected to some degree too. Thanks for reading Francis x

I loved this style of writing shaz, something different!! Still CANNOT believe the leech on your eyelid, that’s the worst part I reckon…
Thanks Daisy. I was so freaked out - those b*stard things move so fast 🫣 Was grateful for the dryer weather, less sign of them.
